Project Smile Book

I mentioned this in the list of 10 changes/goals that I'm working on.  We all have them, pictures that make your heart melt and put a smile on your face.

Here are a few of my examples:

A picture with my Grandfather and sister.  I had to be about 4.  I really don't even remember anything about it.  But both my Grandfather and sister have died.  So looking at the picture makes me smile and remember these two special people in my life.

My favorite picture from my wedding.

The very first picture of my son - even before he was cleaned up.

Another picture of him in pre-K.

No matter what kind of mood I'm in, if I look at these pictures I am much calmer, happier and at peace.  It's like an emotional hug.  So I want to create a book that contains only these kind of pictures so that when I need that extra encouragement I have it at my fingertips.

Do you have any tips for a calmer, happier, peaceful self?

Update on changes

Things are going pretty well.  Of course, change does take some time!

I'm down to one coke a day.  Which is amazing to me.  I haven't struggled as much as I thought I would.

I checked out Little Women from the library.  Yes, I read it when I was younger, but thought I'd like to re-read it.

While there I also checked out two books on migraines and foods to avoid.

My counter was clean this morning.  I admit some days it hasn't been.  But the mornings it's clean, I really do feel less stressed.

Reading the Bible through in 90 days.  Just a little behind schedule due to some circumstances this weekend.  But I should be able to catch up soon.

Progress is happening.  One step at a time.

First 10 Changes

After much prayer and consideration, I have my list together for the first 10 things I'm going to tackle.  Yes, some of them may sound a little silly, but if they are bugging me then it's worth the effort to make a change.

1.  Drink water instead of coke.  As in stop drinking cokes.  I really think they may be affecting my sleep, my migraines and of course weight.
2.  Clean off the kitchen cabinets each night.
3.  Set quite time each morning instead of "oh I'll get it in sometime today."
4.  Journal
5.  Get back into the habit of taking my vitamins every day.
6.  Work on my project smile book.  I'll tell you about that another day.
7.  Research more about migraines and specific triggers.  This is after my recent attack that I think was caused by drinking hot chocolate.  I don't drink coffee and really I don't drink hot chocolate often.  But I was off and gave myself a special treat - and wound up in bed!
8.  Read a classic
9. Spend the last 30 minutes in the evening taking care of myself and the needs for tomorrow.  Getting clothes together, lunches etc.  I used to do this but lately let it slide.
10. And after a gentle push,  read the Bible through in 90 days.

So that's it.  Of course the last one is at least 90 days, but after a month or so I hope to have the others established in my routines and pick 10 new changes to work on.  Again it's really just small changes, one step at a time to get me closer to being where I feel I need to be.

Weekly Menu

I'm sorry I'm late posting the menu.  The week's almost over!  But I took a few days off last week and had a long Labor Day weekend.

I also discovered something.  I knew stress could bring on a migraine - at least for me.  And I knew onions could bring on a migraine - at least for me.  Now it seems chocolate also does.  Very sad indeed.

Saturday:  Beef Enchiladas, Salad
Sunday:  Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Lima Beans, Gravy, Biscuits
Monday:  Visiting my parents
Tuesday:  Dijon Chicken, Black Eye Peas, Broccoli
Wednesday:  Pork Chops, Fried Potatoes and Macaroni and Cheese
Thursday:  B-B Que Chicken, Corn on the Cob, Baked Beans
Friday:  Leftovers or Eat Out

What's on your menu this week?
